Who can become a
donor?
People of all ages and medical histories should consider
themselves potential organ, tissue, and eye donors. Your medical
condition at the time of death will determine what can be
donated. Because f the critical need for more deceased donors,
there is a growing number of living donors. Living donation
includes a kidney, part of a lung, or part of a liver.
What can I donate?
Organs:
heart, kidneys, pancreas, lungs, liver, and intestines
Tissues:
cornea/eye, skin, bone,
heart, valves, veins, and tendons
What is the Gift of
Life Organ, Tissue & Eye Donor Registry?
The
registry is a confidential, 24-hours a day, computerized
database that documents your wishes regarding organ, tissue, and
eye donation.
Why is it important
to register my wish to become a donor?
Upon
every hospital death, Gift of Life Michigan is notified. Having
a donor registry card on file helps to ensure that your decision
to become a donor is carried out. Even when you sign the donor
registry, it is ESSENTIAL THAT YOUR FAMILY KNOWS your wishes.
Your family may be asked to sign a consent form in order for
your donation to occur.
